Showing up for yourself
After watching Canada lose to the United States in the Olympic hockey game, we started reflecting.
Isn’t it interesting how we can be the biggest fans of athletes we’ve never even met?
We cheer for them. We defend them. We say, “It’s okay, they’ll get it next time.”
But when we lose? When we miss the shot? When we fall short?
We don’t offer ourselves that same grace.
Instead of encouragement, we criticize. Instead of belief, we doubt. Instead of patience, we pressure.
Why?
Those athletes train hard. They sacrifice. They show up consistently. But so do you.
You show up in your business. You show up for your family. You show up for your goals.
And when you fall short, it doesn’t make you weak, it makes you human.
What if we treated ourselves like elite athletes? What if instead of self-criticism, we said: “Shake it off. Learn. Adjust. Go again.”
Because the truth is, growth requires losses. Momentum requires resilience. And confidence requires compassion.
Be your own biggest fan. Cheer for yourself the way you cheer for Team Canada.
Next time you “lose,” don’t tear yourself down. Tell yourself: We’ll get it next time.
That’s how winners are built. 🤍
